School Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)
Training in School Mass Casualty Incidents
Service Description
This plan will prepare your school nurses, athletic trainers, or other medically trained personnel and non-medical personnel how to manage a school site mass casualty incident. The process, equipment, personnel, activation, and basic level protocols/procedures will be in a manual and trained with an exercise. This plan will be shared with your first responder agencies, local emergency management agency, and local hospitals to identify and communicate what has been done for the injured prior to EMS arrival. It may be a while before first responders get to a scene. As such, it is upon the school site and district to have a plan to treat the injured and sustain treatment for a minimum of 4 hours. This plan will be implemented in exercises and live events as an incident unfolds. This guidance will help your Triage team get through an incident and get the injured off your site with treatment done, potentially saving a life.
